'100 Reasons Why Leo Tolstoy Cries' is a book shortlisted for the first ABCDbooks competition. It was conceived, written, and illustrated by Katya Gushchina, who drew attention to a remarkable fact: the great Russian writer, count, and determined, brave, and handsome man loved to cry.

On the one hand, in Tolstoy's time, tears were by no means considered the preserve of children and women, but on the other hand, there were indeed plenty of reasons for them: Leo Nikolayevich's heart responded with pain or emotion to everything—be it the poetry and prose of his fellow writers or the famine in the surrounding villages, not to mention family troubles.
