He was born on June 2, 1981, in Stockholm. He grew up in Helsingborg. He studied theology, but soon dropped out and became a truck driver. In 2009, Fredrik Backman married and became a father a year later. His first blog on Veckorevyn was called Bröllopsbloggen (Wedding Blog) and was about Backman’s preparations for this important event. In 2010, he continued writing on the Magazine Café website in the OS-bloggen blog, dedicated to the 2010 Winter Olympics. Since then, the blog has been maintained continuously.
In 2012, Fredrik Backman wrote columns for the newspaper Metro. In the same year, he made his debut as a writer, publishing two books on the same day: En man som heter Ove and Saker min son behöver veta om världen.
