Eight-year-old Zhenya learns from a doctor and an old family friend the story of the legendary rescue dog Barry. Barry lived in a mountain monastery high in the Alps and had an incredible sense of smell – he could find a person when no one else could.

The story about a mountain rescuer is based on the true story of a dog named Barry. During his years of service on the Great St. Bernard Pass, Barry saved more than 40 people. One of them was a little boy - a dog found him after an avalanche and carried him on his back to the monastery.
The whole world remembers Barry's exploits. Samuel Rogers dedicated a poem, 'The Great St. Bernard,' to him, and Henry Bordeaux a short story, 'La Neige sur les pas.' Walt Disney Pictures even created a TV movie about the dog, 'Barry of St. Bernard.' And although many years have passed since Barry's death, one dog at St. Bernard's Monastery always bears his name.
