When Taras returns home dissatisfied with his homework about the unknown heroes of the Great Patriotic War, his father volunteers to help his son and tells him a story he himself learned 30 years ago. This is the story of the orderly dog Mukhtar and his heroic deed.
The Mukhtar in the story has a real-life prototype. During the Great Patriotic War, the orderly dog Mukhtar pulled more than 400 wounded soldiers from the battlefield.
Many Russian soldiers owe the success of their operations and their lives to dogs. Loyal and hardy, they fought invaders, searched for mines, committed sabotage, transmitted messages between units, and rescued the wounded. Thousands of dogs, whose names history has not preserved, contributed to the victory.
