David B. (Pierre-François Bochard) is a renowned French artist, graphic novel writer, and co-founder of the independent comics publishing house L'Association. His autobiographical novel, 'The Sacred Disease,' is his most famous work. It tells the story of a family in which one of the children suffers from epilepsy. The author's relentless struggle with this serious illness, his unceasing hopes for recovery, and society's reaction to his seizures all shape his personality. At the same time, the novel reveals the events of half a century of French history, including its wars and social moods. The reader is presented with a large-scale picture, executed in a virtuoso visual-narrative language.
The graphic novel 'The Sacred Disease' has repeatedly received various awards and has been translated into more than 10 languages.
