'The Diary of a Genius' (French: 'Journal d'un génie') is a unique memoir by Salvador Dalí, written between 1952 and 1963 and published in Paris in 1964. By this time, Dalí was already world-famous, and his new book is both a creative manifesto and an attempt to explain, or even justify in the public's eyes, his cultivated image as a 'true modern genius' who had the misfortune of being born in 'an era of near-dwarfs.' The full text of the diary is enriched by marginal appendices, included by the author himself for the first edition: 'The Science of Farting,' 'In Praise of the Fly,' 'Dalian Mysticism...,' as well as a comparative table of the merits of artists past and future.
