Alexander Stepanovich Grinevsky, known by his pen name Alexander Grin, is one of the most widely read and beloved prose writers in Russia. His works about dreamers, travelers, and sailors combine adventure, romance, psychology, and philosophy. Grin is a 'poet of intense life' (as critic A. Gornfeld called him), whose beautiful and noble heroes, inspired by faith in goodness and love, are ready to act in defiance of a harsh world. 'He taught me courage and the joy of life,' wrote Eduard Bagritsky of Grin.
