Anna Akhmatova called Blok 'the tragic tenor of the era.' A 'tenor' is an idol of the public, a cult hero. This is precisely what A. Blok was in the eyes of his contemporaries. The time refracted in his poetry, Blok's very image, added the epithet 'tragic.'
This edition includes Blok's poems that made up the famous Third Book of Poems (1907-1916): the cycles 'Terrible World,' 'Retribution,' 'Iambics,' 'Harps and Violins,' as well as the poem 'The Nightingale Garden.'
