Miguel de Unamuno is a classic Spanish writer and philosopher. He invented the 'nivola' (or 'romana') genre as a counterpoint to the novel, changing the rules of the literary game. In 'The Fog,' Unamuno makes the reader a co-author and allows him to choose between two endings.

Augusto, the hero of the novel, suspects that he is merely a figment of the author's imagination, that his life is subject to someone else's will. The light in the eyes of a pretty pianist rescues the hero from the thick fog of everyday life, but also brings this fateful thought. However, at first, Augusto pays no particular attention to her. All his efforts are focused on winning the capricious pianist's favor and winning her away from her fiancé. However, the girl begins to toy with Augusto's feelings. In despair, he decides to commit suicide, but first he comes to his creator's home and learns that he is planning to kill him...

The hero of 'The Fog' is both 'little Hamlet' and Don Quixote. In addition to allusions to Shakespeare and Cervantes, one can detect references to Dostoevsky's 'Notes from Underground' and 'Demons' in the text.

Unamuno plays not only with his character, but also with the readers. He makes us doubt his existence, hinting that the world around us and everything that happens in it is also someone's novel.

The illustrations on the covers of the 'Magistral. Siesta' collection are inspired by authentic Spanish and Latin American ornaments and symbols. The flaps—an extension of the cover—can be used as bookmarks.

Unamuno's Nivola plot could be excellent material for argumentation in an essay for the Unified State Exam and Basic State Exam in Russian language and literature. Raman will also be essential for students majoring in philology.
