'Hunger' (1890) is a largely autobiographical novel by Knut Hamsun, which brought him worldwide fame. A terrifyingly simple story of a young, unrecognized writer, teetering day after day on the brink of starvation. Reality and bizarre, morbid fantasies intertwine in his mind, painfully experiencing the discrepancy between the ideal and the material world.
