This text exudes a furnace-like heat and a grave-like chill—all at the same time. The novel is based on the investigative case of Pyotr Ilyich Nesterenko, director of the Moscow crematorium on the grounds of the Donskoy Necropolis. While writing the novel, Sasha Filipenko retraced the protagonist's steps, following him to Saratov and Paris, Istanbul and Warsaw. A vast amount of archival documents was provided to the author by the Memorial Society. 'The Cremulator' is a fictional reconstruction of an absolutely remarkable fate. Sasha Filipenko was born in Minsk in 1984. He graduated from the Philology Department of St. Petersburg State University and earned a master's degree. He also received a diploma from Bard College in New York. He worked as a screenwriter for numerous programs on Russian television, including 'Prozhektor-ParisHilton.' He hosted his own show on the Dozhd TV channel. In 2011, he was awarded a first-level diploma from the Belarusian PEN Center. Winner of the Yasnaya Polyana Prize, the Russian Prize, and the Snob magazine 'Made in Russia' award. Author of six novels, short stories, and journalism.
