Off the coast of Norway lies a small, nameless island, barely visible on a map. The entire island is adorned with only a lighthouse and a modest caretaker's cottage. Young Arne Bjørneboe, nicknamed 'The Mute,' has chosen this simple, secluded life for himself. Scarred and withdrawn, he resembles this rocky island, which refuses to be part of the mainland. But one day, a boat from the mainland brings a girl here... Thus begins a two-century-long family saga, reminiscent of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' with a Nordic twist.
