Richard Adams captivated the world with his first book, Watership Down. Initially rejected by all major publishers, the novel was beloved by millions of readers worldwide, was adapted into two films, and has earned a worthy place alongside The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach, Dandelion Wine by Robert Bradbury, and Flowers for Algernon by David Keyes. The Plague Dogs was also adapted for the screen in 1982 by Martin Rosen, who had recently adapted Watership Down; Michael Hurt played one of the leading roles in the film, known in Russian as The Plague Dogs.
