Memorial: The Taken House (Memorial Otnyaty Dom)

Memorial is a fellowship of public organizations dedicated to human rights and the history of victims of Soviet repression. At the moment the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Memorial, Boris Belenkin was in a Moscow courthouse, serving as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by the prosecutor's office, which had seized the organization's premises. This book is not the history of Memorial, but the story of a man: Boris Belenkin, a longtime employee of Memorial and its longtime librarian. This publication tells the story of his illustrious life, which, full of humor and sadness, brought Boris to Memorial and never let him go.
