A Lover's Discourse: Fragments (Fragmenty Rechi Vlyublyonnogo)

'Fragments of a Lover's Speech' made Roland Barthes famous: after its publication in 1977, the semiological theorist was perceived as a new pop star. He was invited to appear on television shows alongside Françoise Sagan and Anne Golon (co-author of the 'Angélique' novels), and interviews with him appeared in popular magazines like Playboy (which Barthes once mocked in his book 'Mythologies') and Elle. This success stems from the obvious proximity of 'Fragments' to a work of fiction, with its characters and plot. Thus, the critic and theorist's book on the speech of lovers itself becomes an example and model of love speech. This edition is supplemented by materials from Roland Barthes's seminars at the École Practique des Hautes Études (Paris), published in 2007 under the title 'Love Speech.'
