This collection includes two significant works by Camus.
'The Rebel' is an essay written at the intersection of literary criticism and philosophy. One of Camus's main ideas, which he used as the basis for his existentialist concept as a writer and philosopher, is the idea of rebellion. Rebellion, although thrice doomed to failure, but prompting a person who wants to control his own destiny to fight against the laws of society. A meaningful life, according to Camus, is impossible without struggle, just as struggle is impossible without the will to freedom, which again and again poses before us the 'damned' questions of existence.
'The Myth of Sisyphus' is a philosophical essay in which the author presents the meaningless and endless labor of Sisyphus as a metaphor for modern society. Why do we work every day? Who needs it? A daily trip to work is as essentially absurd work as a constant attempt to lift a stone up a mountain from which it will still roll down.
