Tyson Yankaporta (b. 1973), a member of the Apalech clan, an Indigenous community in Australia, founded the Indigenous Knowledge Systems Lab at Deakin University in Melbourne. His book is an essay on the inherent contradictions between the rational and global Western worldview, on the one hand, and the traditional worldview, particularly that to which Australian Aboriginal people remain committed, on the other. As someone who transitioned from the world of tradition to the world of globalization while trying not to shake the foundations of his birthright, Yankaporta attempts to understand Indigenous tradition as a way to view globalization from the outside.
