This graphic novel is an encyclopedia based on the biography and work of Ural storyteller Pavel Bazhov. Twenty-one artists from across Russia contributed to the comic. The book consists of three parts: Bazhov's biography, tales from 'The Malachite Box,' and fan fiction—short humorous and surreal stories inspired by Bazhov. At the end of the book, readers will find additional materials and sketches by the artists. There is also a preface and a 'backstage' section featuring works and sketches not included in the main book. The graphic novel is intended for an audience of 16+.
Most of the stories were written by Georgy Grigoriev, a research fellow at the Pavel Petrovich Bazhov Museum, while 23 comic book artists from across Russia worked on the visuals. Most of the illustrations are stark, set against a black background, but some are very cheerful, such as the manga, done in yellow. The varied illustrations make the comic feel completely unique.
