Caesar and Cleopatra (Tsezar i Kleopatra)

This collection includes three plays by Bernard Shaw, revealing different facets of his dramatic talent. 'Caesar and Cleopatra' is an absolute masterpiece of his creative legacy, a merciless historical satire on the eternal themes of politics, war, and the struggle for power. In 1945, director Gabriel Pascal adapted the play into a film starring Vivien Leigh and Claude Rains. 'John Bull's Other Island,' a masterpiece of the drama of ideas, addresses the issue of relations between England and Ireland, a subject Shaw, as an Irishman, always took to heart. The premiere was a resounding success—the play was even attended by the Prime Minister, and a special performance was commissioned for King Edward VII. In the brutally satirical parable 'The Apple Cart,' which refers to so-called 'political extravagances,' Shaw ridicules the futility of the bureaucratic machine and the absurdity of the intrigues of those in power.
