The former mischievous tomboy Jo March, whom readers remember from Little Women, gets married and opens an experimental school for boys at the Plumfield estate. The young students of the school — twelve orphan boys of various ages — study and play, work and quarrel, struggle with their shortcomings and develop their strengths.
