The Trial (Protsess)

A novel that has become a symbol of Franz Kafka's work. Interestingly, Kafka left no clues to help us reconstruct the plot. The chapters were unnumbered and contained in separate envelopes. Josef K. is a rational hero in an absurd society. His unremarkable, even somewhat banal, life went on as usual until he was informed that a trial had been opened against him...
The absurdity of what is happening to K. is frightening precisely because of its mundane, cold ordinariness, its everyday nature, and even the strange logic of the horror befalling the hero, which he is powerless to resist.
Where is the judge he has never seen? Where is the high court, where he never got to?
He is guilty simply because every person in this life can be guilty of something...
The terrifying and absurdly funny atmosphere of 'The Trial' is amazingly accurately conveyed by Orson Welles in his famous film adaptation with Anthony Perkins, Jeanne Moreau and Romy Schneider in the leading roles.
