Vladimir Voynovich is one of the most interesting Russian writers of the second half of the 20th century, the creator of the charming and unprepossessing Soviet soldier Ivan Chonkin. The trilogy 'The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin' has long been a classic, it can be put on a par with the most outstanding works of Russian and world literature.
In his equally famous novel 'Moscow 2042' Vladimir Voynovich depicted the future capital, where communism has finally been built 'for the first time in history', though so far only in this one city. The Moscow Communist Republic (MOSKOREP) is separated from the rest of the country by a high fence with barbed wire, and what is happening on its streets and in the minds of its residents, the reader will learn from the lips of the main character, writer Vitaly Kartsev, who ended up in this fairytale Moscow with the help of a time machine.
The novel was written in 1986 in exile and, according to the author, many of its realities have found their unexpected embodiment in modern society.
