The sweeping Florio family saga, whose history spans over 150 years and is intertwined with the ups and downs of Sicily.
After an earthquake, two Florio brothers, Paolo and Ignazio, move to Palermo and open a small spice shop. The locals give the newcomers a cold reception, calling them tramps behind their backs. Soon, one brother dies, leaving the other to care for his wife, Giuseppina, and little Vincenzo. Ignazio and Giuseppina are secretly in love, but they dare not admit it, even to themselves. Suffering from unrequited love, Ignazio devotes all his energy to growing the business and succeeds. Soon, the grown Vincenzo joins the family business, also facing love dramas and much, much hard work, which will lead to the creation of the House of Florio. A new Ignazio will take his place, and so it will be repeated from generation to generation.
The novel has a second part, 'The Lions of Sicily. The Twilight of an Empire.' In it, Stefania Auchi continues the story of the heroes, and the reader becomes aware of the allusion to 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' by Gabriel García Márquez.
The Florio family saga has been the best-selling book in Italy for the past four years. More than 1.5 million copies have already been purchased. The novel has been reprinted 70 times, and the rights to it have been sold to 40 countries.
At the end of 2023, the first season based on the book, 'The Sicilian Lions,' was released on the Disney+ streaming service, receiving a 7.1 rating on IMDb.
