Jorge Luis Borges is one of the most famous writers of the 20th century, having largely shaped the face of modern literature. In his essay on Borges's influence, Umberto Eco formulates the fundamental principle of the great Argentine's works: 'Books speak to each other.' Borges himself wrote: 'Some people are proud of every book they write, but I am proud of every book I read.' In numerous interviews, Borges described himself not so much as a writer as an attentive, appreciative reader. It is not surprising that much of his literary legacy consists of articles, notes, reviews, and reflections on literature. Such are the two collections by Borges included in this volume: 'Atlas' and 'Private Library.'
