Polina spent her entire ninth grade looking forward to this summer: archaeological digs, camping, the wonderfully crazy antics of her 'lemming' friends... And then there's the main adventure of the session – the Trail of Horrors. And the main event – the All-Night Night. But for some reason, now her friends, instead of their usual games and foolishness, are mired in the throes of love, and their impulses sometimes lead them into dangerous situations. So, is childhood over? No more adventures and campfire songs? Or is there still room in the hearts of high school students, burning with their first love, for sincerity, recklessness, and pure childish joy? During this session, the maturing Polina will take a step toward finding harmony both within herself and with those around her. 'And there was something else that Polina didn't yet understand—something that suddenly made the entire camp lose its spirit, why everyone was now drawn to wandering in pairs in the dark, sneaking off to see students and huddling in tents instead of huddling like one huge beast around a warm fire and singing or running in packs through the forest. And yet she'd been waiting for this summer all year!'? The book was shortlisted for the third season of the Belaya Vorona literary competition.? The cover is a winner of the Belaya Vorona 'Dust Jacket-2023' competition.? The romance of summer camp.? About overcoming teenage dogmatism and accepting others. About the authors: Anastasia Verveyko (born 1984) has been writing poetry since childhood; her first poems appeared in the local newspaper 'Voronezhsky Prezent' (Voronezh Present), and others in the literary magazine 'Podyom' (Rise). The story 'Young Grandmother,' which was longlisted for the international literary festival 'Slavic Lyre,' was later published there. In eleventh grade, Anastasia won a songwriting competition and, instead of taking final exams, went to Moscow to sing. She learned to work with text consciously in the philology department of VSPU, and since then, writing has become an occupation, a labor, and a meditation for her, allowing her to transcend the boundaries of a single life. Nastya Borisenko (b. 2000) is an artist, illustrator, and animator, a graduate of the Design program at the Higher School of Economics, and a participant in the Mors festival (shortlisted in 2019). The Belaya Vorona literary competition has been held since 2020. Each year, we offer authors writing for children a new topic, and then select the best from several hundred submitted manuscripts. We believe that the literary competition will allow aspiring authors whose works meet our expectations of children's literature to find their audience.
