Flight (Beg)

'Flight' is one of M. A. Bulgakov's most striking works, which, like many others, never saw the light of day during the author's lifetime. Controversy over it had already shifted to a purely political dimension in the early 1930s. According to 'responsible' writers, 'Flight' idealized emigration and was 'harmful to Soviet audiences.' With this play, Bulgakov bid farewell to the old Russia, and, as he understood, forever. As he said his farewells, he asked himself: what had happened to Russia, why did Russians destroy each other, and whether it was possible for exiles, voluntarily or involuntarily caught in the maelstrom of tragic events, to return to their homeland. The film adaptation of Bulgakov's play 'Flight' became one of the pinnacles of Soviet cinema. This edition is accompanied by extensive commentary.
