'On Booze' is Viktor Kogan's translation of the American collection 'On Booze,' published in 2011. New York-based New Directions, responsible for the posthumous fame of F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940), has collected magazine publications and works from the writer's archives under a single cover. The book includes diary entries, essays, and short stories by one of the most prominent representatives of the 'Lost Generation,' united by the theme of alcohol and arranged in reverse chronological order—from the late 1930s to the early 1920s. Fragmented, joyless, yet poignantly poetic texts gradually immerse us in memories of the fading 'Jazz Age,' the turbulent interwar period, and nostalgia for a former New York, as if glimpsed through the haze from the deck of the last ferry to Staten Island.
