Poetic and full of unexpected plot twists, Stefansson's good-naturedly funny novel is a look at the everyday lives of ordinary people, just like you and me. The author reveals the magic of life in its many forms - from beauty to foolishness, from adoration to betrayal, from friendship to loneliness, from burning passion to complete indifference.
Anecdotes and gossip about the inhabitants of an Icelandic village are like a million similar stories and at the same time convey the uniqueness of each character, not always perfect, but certainly worthy of love.
