Eugene Onegin (Yevgeniy Onegin)

The novel in verse 'Eugene Onegin' is Alexander Pushkin's most famous and significant work, a pinnacle of Russian poetry and the subject of numerous studies. Pushkin began writing the novel in May 1823 and completed it only in the autumn of 1831, when he wrote 'Onegin's Letter to Tatyana.' In the autumn of 1823, he informed friends: '...I am now writing not a novel, but a novel in verse—a devilish difference...' Engaging, lighthearted, based on a love story conveyed in the manner of an intimate conversation between the author and the reader, it is also full of insoluble paradoxes and mysteries. The contradictions and multidimensionality that constitute the very essence of Pushkin's novel attract new generations of readers, allowing them to discover new meanings within it.
