Romeo and Juliet

The reader's attention is offered the first significant tragedy by William Shakespeare — the 'saddest tale in the world' about two young lovers who, at the cost of their deaths, reconcile the long-feuding Verona families of the Montagues and the Capulets. The sharply dramatic collisions of the play, the lofty freedom and depth of feeling of the main characters, in many ways defined the emotional world and values of modern European love culture, and opened up for contemporary art the possibility of virtuosic play on the theme of 'Shakespeare in love'. The tragedy is published in the translation by T. Shchepkina-Kupernik, which has become a classic.
