Yevgeny Zamyatin's novel 'We' straddles the line between two eras. It grew on the fertile soil of the Silver Age, absorbing its richness and intellectuality, embodying in its protagonist's soul idealism and a penchant for global restructuring, a dream for the future, and vulnerability to the enormity of power. Written in 1921, the novel was first published in Russia only in the late 1990s.
