The First-Class Passenger (Passazhir Pervogo Klassa)

This collection includes stories and novellas by A.P. Chekhov, somehow connected with the railway theme. Passenger and freight trains, mail and courier, suburban and long-distance, trips to the dacha, abroad, on pilgrimage, roadside conversations, chance encounters at railway stations and in carriages, minor troubles along the way and unexpected joys, funny complaints of passengers and disasters, life at tiny railway stations and gigantic construction sites - all this was observed and captured by A.P. Chekhov, who lived during an era marked by a real railway boom. In his stories, the railway becomes a comprehensive image and symbol of Russia, with all its attractive and repulsive sides. This collection will undoubtedly help while away the time on the road for passengers not only of the first, but also of all other classes.
