Robinson Crusoe (Robinzon Kruzo)

It's hard to imagine a more 'homey' writer, familiar to everyone from early childhood for family reading, than Daniel Defoe—the creator of the legendary Robinson Crusoe! Today's readers' grandchildren and great-grandchildren will watch the tireless islander with the same excitement (storms, cannibal savages, pirates—breathtaking!..), curiosity, and even affection—life turns out so cozy and peaceful in a tent, and then in a shack, with homemade furniture and dishes, surrounded by pets—a dog, cats, parrots... Robinson himself milks goats, plants trees, grows and bakes bread. 'Whatever work he talks about in this book, he talks about it so interestingly that each of us begins to feel as if we ourselves are participating in it' (K. Chukovsky).
