Japan, 1930s. Shimamura travels by train through snowy mountainous terrain to relax at the hot springs of Komako, whom he believes he loves. Komako, counting down every day since their last meeting, breaks all rules and falls in love with Shimamura, even though she knows her love is doomed. The laconic and elegant 'Snow Country' is rightfully considered a classic of Japanese literature and was one of three works singled out for Kawabata's Nobel Prize.
