Pushkin's literary reputation was built largely on the popularity of his poems, and each new one became the subject of heated debate and a forum for discussion of pressing issues in Russian literature. In 1835, the poet published the two-volume collection 'Poems and Stories of Alexander Pushkin,' which included all of his completed poems that had received royal approval. This collection, published during Pushkin's lifetime, is supplemented by the poem 'The Bronze Horseman,' which was rejected by the 'highest censorship.'
