'Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka' is the first collection of stories by N. V. Gogol, which was enthusiastically received by his contemporaries and evoked the following comment from A. S. Pushkin: 'Here is true gaiety, sincere, unconstrained, without affectation, without stiffness. And in places, what poetry! What sensitivity!' This collection also turned out to be Gogol's most luminous book, beloved by many generations of readers.
