The book by the outstanding specialist in ancient history and literature N. A. Kun, 'Legends and Myths of Ancient Greece', is one of the most popular, accessible and at the same time authoritative editions that acquaint us with the culture of the ancient world. Since its appearance in 1914, the book has gone through many reprints: readers' interest in gripping and vivid stories about the origin of the Olympian gods, the exploits of Heracles, the adventures of the Argonauts, the wanderings of Odysseus, the tragedy of King Oedipus and the Trojan War is endless. Knowledge of these heroes and plots provides the key to understanding many works of art: poetry, drama, painting and music.
