In her debut novel, Caroline Valantini delicately explores the dark and light sides of existence at the intersection of metaphysics and animism. We meet Alexis after he has found himself underground. His body is motionless, but his soul is in no hurry to leave its shell. He tries to understand what has happened to him and is tormented by various guesses. Alexis's mother, overcome with grief, blames herself and also strives to understand the reason for her son's unexpected death.
All this is very painful, yet the book is filled with lightness and luminosity, thanks to which the characters do not plunge into dull blackness, but rather wander in the blue of twilight.
